When are carpenter bee traps the most effective?
Carpenter bees have a season. They begin their season in your neighborhood on the first couple of 70-degree sunny days. They emerge from their nests and begin to look for a mate. They actively make nests in the weeks after they emerge. Our traps are most effective while carpenter bees are looking for and making nests. Optimally, traps are placed prior to carpenter bees emerging.
What if my trap is not capturing carpenter bees?
Some reasons your trap has yet to capture carpenter bees - placement, position, scent, seasonality, and types of bees. Placement is key to the success of carpenter bee traps. Often moving the carpenter bee trap higher or closer to the nesting sites can make all the difference. Positioning your trap is critical - the trap should be positioned straight up and down and mounted to vertical surface or suspended in a stable location. You do not want your trap swinging in the wind. The scent or smell of your trap is important to the carpenter bees. Position your traps early in the season to give them time to acclimate to the smells of your wood. Do not spray pesticides on or near your traps and do not clean them with chemicals. Bee Licious Bee Bait provides an attractive scent to your trap luring in carpenter bees. You can also try adding a stunned or dead carpenter bee to your trap. Seasonality plays a key role in the success of your traps. The traps are most effective when carpenter bees are looking for and making nests. It is hard to determine what types of bees you have flying around. Our carpenter bee traps will only attract and capture carpenter bees. The cool part is that they will not attract or trap other native pollinators like honeybees and bumblebees!

Do carpenter bee traps require Bee Licious Bee Bait?
Our carpenter bee trap does not require Bee Licious Bee Bait or any other bait or lure to attract carpenter bees. Bee Licious Bee Bait will make your trap more attractive to carpenter bees – using scent and pheromones. Another option is to add a captured carpenter bee to your trap - dead or alive. Reminder: do not empty more than is required by capacity. Carpenter bees in your trap draws more carpenter bees.
What size are Hand-Dipped Wooden Corks?
Carpenter bee holes are usually ½” in diameter. Our 8 pack of corks comes with 2 sizes – 4 small and 4 large. Both sizes will fit most carpenter bee holes. The corks can be made more malleable by squeezing the tips with pliers. Insert a cork as far as you can and trim the excess flush. If your holes are too large for the corks, you have additional damage which is typically caused by woodpeckers. Woodpeckers and other animals will dig out the larvae from the carpenter bee nests.
How do I make bait for the Glass Wasp trap?
Wasps and yellow jackets have a sweet tooth! Entice them with a sugary concoction: sweetened fruit juice or a sugar-water blend. To make sugar-water: mix equal parts of sugar and warm water until the sugar is dissolved. Pro tip – for an extra enticing lure, consider diluting jams or jellies for a potent sugary bait!
