Giving Back

Best Bee Brothers Give Back to the Dying Bees - Bee Informed Partnership

As many already know, the honey bee population is in jeopardy. Here at Best Bee Brothers, LLC we understand the importance of bees to the existence of human life. No other single creature plays a more significant role in the production of fruits and vegetables than the honey bee. These tiny but mighty creatures are responsible for 1/3 of all the food we currently enjoy.

WHY ARE THE BEES DYING?

There are many reasons collectively that are contributing to the honey bee demise, the Honey bee Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is what this honey bee disaster is termed. Through the robust efforts of many field scientists the blame has been attributed to a combination of factors such as the increased use of pesticides, multiple viruses, poor nutrition and genetics and even cell phone towers.   However the largest cause is thought to be a parasite called Varroa destructor. It is a type of mite that is highly resistant to insecticides.

One other significant factor is the recent bitter winters that last well into the spring. Specifically this impact can be seen dramatically in the Midwest regions, where there has been a historically high yielding of honey bees. Iowa, for example has lost 70% of their honey bee population. Last year alone the 33% of the honey bee population in the USA died, that is a 42% increase from the previous year.

HOW BEST BEE BROTHERS IS CONTRIBUTING

Best Bee Brothers, LLC is donating 10 cents of every trap purchased to the Bee Informed Partnership. This donation goes for not only our bee traps but also our bee lodges which encourage bees to thrive near gardens.

Bee Informed is a group of the leading research labs and universities in agriculture and science specifically for research into the honey bee declines in the USA. They are working hand in hand with beekeepers to accelerate and refine their study on the honey bee health, and find better beekeeping practices in that will result in healthier honey bees.
